Wittewater
The story of Wittewater becoming a mission station has been very complicated, gossip, documents lost and found, mistakes in communication and interpretation and uncertainty of property rights. This lasted till the last legatee had passed away in 1888.In 1856 the farm Wittewater was bought and from where the spiritual supervision and care of Goedverwacht had been carried out till after 1888 when the Goedverwacht property was sold to the mission department
Though Wittewater and Goedverwacht are two separate stations, they are so intertwined in their history that they seem to form one great mission station. Complete separation seems to have been effected in 1964.
Wittewater is located behind Piketberg. Traveling towards Velddrif from Piketberg passing De Hoek you will find the turn off to Wittewater. For those interested in vernacular architecture of mission stations visit the old section which has undergone some restoration but is in dire need of further restoration.
