It also boasts magnificent views of Table Mountain, the West Coast and the Atlantic Ocean to the South and West. To the North is a panaromic view of the Cederberg mountains, wheat and vineyard farms for as far as the eye can see.
The manor house with its thatched Cape Dutch Style architecture is expansive stretching ±400 square meters.
There are three other houses on the property, as well as 3 converted labourers cottages and a barn house. Also extensive mix of out-buildings, an artists pottery studio, an office and two flatlets close to the Manor house.

Ever wondered what your estate agent gets up to?
Ruth Goodman of Dormehl Properties Darling is a little different

Mark, myself - Ruth, Brother Stephen and My Dad - were the only ones on the road on the way in to Oasis via Ceres.

It started raining as soon as we hit gravel. 2 BMW's and 2 Yamaha's ,
It took us four days to get stuck in the Cedeberg, Rain going in and Rain going out!
But what a great place to get stuck - “Die OASIS”
When we arrived Thursday evening - we just made it - an hour later both rivers where flooded people caught between had to spend the night - sans tooth brush

The wood fire and great company - a honesty bar - lots of friends made that night.
The next day we took the road to Clanwilliam via the Oliphants River - in FULL FLOOD! You could SURF from Citrusdal all the way to Clanwilliam!
Saturday - we took Dad back to OP DIE BERG to say goodbye and met up with John and Paul - they came back to OASIS for lunch. Where more bikes arrived- Gerrard and friends - we took them for a half and hour wild ride through the river on the Wuppertal road.

Thank you to Oasis - Chantal and Gerrit.

FLIGHT FOR BIRDERS
A bird identification course for novice and intermediate bird-watchers :
Multipurpose Centre, Bloekom Avenue in Clanwilliam
The presentation of the “Flight for Birders” bird identification course by Anton Odendal in Clanwilliam has been scheduled for 14 and 15 July 2011. The costs will be R 400-00 per head. The costs include the course manual and a certificate endorsed by BirdLife South Africa – roughly 1,600 slides and drawings will be used. The contents of the course gets updated every second year and this has now been done – in many cases images of similar and potentially confusing species have been combined on the same slide in order to illustrate differences. The development of an infrastructure for birding tourists in the local area will also be highlighted. In the vast majority of the slides English and Afrikaans names of species are printed onto the slide. The course focuses on basic steps in the identification of birds, places heavy emphasis on where to find the rare and often endemic birds in southern Africa and illustrates how ordinary bird-watchers could become involved in the conservation of birds and their habitats.
DETAILS IN BRIEF:
DATES: 14 and 15 July 2011
VENUE: The Multipurpose Center in Bloekom Avenue, Clanwilliam
COSTS: R 400-00, that include the course manual and certificate endorsed by BirdLife South Africa.

Nina's Recipe for the Month
Bean there, done that!
Yes, we are indeed in the tight grip of winter and not a salad or lettuce leaf is to be found on our plates here at My Easy Cooking HQ. Instead we are having the most delicious soups, stews, crumbles and warm baked puddings. There is something so comforting and homey about big pots of old time favorites like Green Bean Stew, Tomato Bredie, Lamb Curry and comforting Vegetable Soup.
Lately I have bean(excuse the pun) experimenting with beans, because they are so versatile and moreish that they can truly take an ordinary meal and transform it into something really tasty …and healthy. I take great comfort in the fact that I can stock up my store cupboard with a variety of tinned beans and with a little bit of imagination, I can convert it into a substantial meal for my family or unexpected guests.
Here are a few ideas with tinned beans:
1. Add a tin of butter beans to your favorite fish cake recipe. The fish cakes have a crunchier texture and it is perfect for a Low GI option.
2. A tin of chick peas can easily be converted to a bowl of creamy hummus. Drain, place in a food processor with ½tsp ground cumin, 2 cloves garlic, zest and juice of 1 lemon, salt and pepper. Serve with hot pitas
3. Add a tin of red kidney beans to your favorite Bolognese
4. Instead of mash potato, mash 2 tins of butterbeans, add a knob of butter and serve with your favorite stew and even Pork sausages.
5. My favorite breakfast is still: toast, baked beans and a soft yolk fried egg, yum!
Try this easy Mexican Bean Crumble, it uses only store cupboard ingredients, dead-easy to prepare and will soon be a weekly family favorite!
Mexican Bean Dish
(Adapted from the www.food-monger.com)

Filling:
250g bacon, chopped
1 onion, finely chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic - finely chopped
1 chili – chopped finely
1 tsp ground cumin
fresh thyme
olive oil
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
1 teaspoon sugar
2 cans beans - 4-in-1 works well
salt and pepper to taste
Crumble Topping:
1 cup flour
5 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
salt / pepper
½ cup Parmesan cheese cup
fresh thyme
1 tablespoon cold water
Serve with a dollop of sour cream, grated cheddar and coriander
Method:
Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius.
In a saucepan, fry bacon until slightly brown. Remove bacon and keep the oil. Add onion, pepper and thyme and cook for about 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes and pasta and cook for about 5 minutes. Add salt, sugar and pepper to taste and simmer for 3-5minutes. Remove from the heat.
Drain the beans. Add the beans to the tomato mixture and stir in the bacon. Taste and add salt and pepper if necessary.
In a bowl, mix the flour, butter, salt, pepper, thyme and Parmesan and rub the mixture until you have crumbs. It should. Sprinkle water over mixture and mix with a fork.
Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the bean mixture and cook for about 45-50 minutes or until crumb topping is golden brown. Garnish with fresh coriander, sour cream and grated cheddar. .

SUSAN KEMP
I work mostly in oils, and love sculpting. My trademark is variety. I paint subjects ranging from realistic landscapes, still lives, seascapes and portraits to dreamscapes and imaginary scenes. Portraits are done in oils, pastels, pencil or charcoal, from life or from photographs; wildlife from photographs in conjunction with fellow-artist and photographer Jackie During. Sculpture includes ceramics, papier maché and relief works comprising ceramics, found materials, plastic, hardware and natural materials.
Some paintings are done from reference material, others just happen. The latter are never consciously conceived. Some works of art just announce themselves; they have a life of their own and even choose their own frames. This process makes art an adventure for me.
I also enjoy the exacting task of book illustration, which I do on a free-lance basis, as well as translation, editing and proof-reading in English and Afrikaans (e.g. legislation, educational comic strips, children’s books).
I grew up in the Tzitzikamma, on the Garden Route in the Southern Cape. I used to work in journalism, translation and public relations. Formerly from Port Elizabeth, Graaff-Reinet, Pretoria, Humansdorp, Outdshoorn, Stutterheim, Bloemfontein, Jeffreys Bay, Britannia Bay, Stellenbosch and Piketberg, I now work from home in Velddrif on the West Coast as an artist, art teacher and free-lance language practitioner. I did a weekly newspaper’s cartoon for a year and have illustrated nine children’s books, of which two were collaborations.

The first designs in the Bamboobee range by Susan Kemp are now available at Classic Touch Framing and Craft, 7 Church Avenue, Velddrif.
These charming fat-girl pictures can now be obtained as prints, decoupage paper and fabric-paint designs, but framed original artworks are also available.
