Cape Namibia Route

Moorreesburg

The town of Moorreesburg originited from the farm Hooikraal given to Tobias Lochner in 1839 by governor Sir George Napier.
The town was named after minister J.C. Le Fébre Moorrees who ministered in the Swartland from 1834 to 1879.
Moorreesburg was declared a town in 1898 and received municipal status in 1909.
The well being of the town depends largely on whether good wheat crops are harvested.

Moorreesburg is centrally situated in the West Coast, about 100km north of Cape Town on the N7 to Namibia.
We offer excellent accommodation, guest farms, restaurants and conference venues.
The Wheat Industry Museum is one of only three of it’s kind in the world. Here one can relive the history and production of wheat and take a look at wheat fossils found in a Pharaoh’s Tomb in Egypt.

Our interesting 9-hole golf course offers affordable green fees, golf carts, bar facilities, catering and true country style hospitality.

For the more energetic we offer hiking on Neulfontein Koppie, mountain biking, fishing, watersports and camping on the banks of the Berg River.

Moorreesburg the town with the friendly people and the green wheatfields!
