A couple of months ago this Nosy Rosy was driving home from a hectic day in the city with the radio as usual tuned to 567 Cape Talk, an interview was been done with a gentleman by the name of Kevin. The N7 being what it is on an afternoon was filled with trucks, cars held together by rust and pantechnicons zooming along at a wild 140kms on the down hills and 60 kms up the other side, ones mind drifts from the your day to the obstacles ahead and back to the radio. As the road returns to a dual lane coming into Malmesbury, Kevin got to the bit about their microbrewery being in Darling. Time to refocus turn off just ahead. Now being able to focus on what was being said you could hear the passion and commitment to follow a dream. The process was an arduous one and for someone without the passion throwing in the towel would have been the easier option.
Not only do you have to have the right formulas to bring a unique product to the market but your packaging needs to portray its contents. This comes with its own setbacks and opinions. The logo says it all the Geometric tortoise (Psammobates geometricus) a rare species, found only in the Western Cape and the Kalahari Desert (thirsty country even for a tortoise). Rare and unhurried, the way a beer should be savoured.
In March of 2010 Darling Brew lager SLOW BEER came into being and they have not looked back.
A four and half week brewing time delivers crisp, light( 4%), preservative free, roasted aromatic perfection.
Let Nosy Rosy be the first to let you know that Darling Brew have added an Ale to their repertoire NATIVE ALE.
After the farmers morning market up on Piket-bo-Berg (last Saturday of each month) a group of us were sitting around after the event when I asked the question, Who has had a Darling Brew, Slow Beer? The response was overwhelming each had not only tasted but had stocked up for the Rugby. It got the 10/10 thumbs up from all and as it was a local brand this made the difference, they understood the pace of life. How about a brew darling now has new meaning.
